Welcome To Our New Women's Group Home

Our New Women’s Home is 5917 square feet with six Seedster bedrooms, a group home parent’s quarters, kitchen, gym/multipurpose room, kitchen-living room, weekend relief quarters, laundry, screened porch, and eight bathrooms. The new home accommodates 10 clients, and all areas of the home are handicap accessible.

THANK YOU

To All The People Who Made This Possible

Our Women’s home is valued at $650,000. Because we received generous donations of both time and money, we were able to build the house for $475,000. Ti Garner, our contractor, did not charge one dime for his services. Denny Terry made many donations. Denny arranged for a number of the construction bills to go straight to him; we never saw them. One of our suppliers, 84 Lumber, gave us a $5,000 grant. BJ Tile gave us some of the tile and subsidized the rest including the granite counter tops. Bud Bratley was our voluntary foreman. The tiles throughout the house were laid for free by Chris Wiseman who wants the Mustard seed to be strong when his son is old enough to attend. David Balthis installed the security system for free.

Many gave monetary support. Trustmark was the first to give; their seed money of $7,500 was increased over a three year period to a total of $22,500. An anonymous donor gave $60,000 to honor his wife. John Chew gave $25,000 and gave another $50,000 for the general fund. Virginia Morris’ children gave $10,000 in her memory. Milton Baxter requested the memorial gifts for Karen Baxter be donated to the Women’s home project, and he gave an additional $1,000. The Women’s Auxiliary gave $10,000. The First Presbyterian women gave $1,000. St. Stephens Episcopal Church sends $100 a month or $1,400 total. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans gave $300, and Linda Smith donated $1,000. Judy and Denny Terry also gave $1,800 directly to the women’s home project. The Central MS Down Syndrome Society gave $1,500. Brandon Baptist Church donated $40. Robert and Margaret Waller, Jack and Ann Alexander, and Dr. Billy Brown each gave $25. The Theresa Foundation of New York gave $500 toward the Women’s home. Jim Agnew gave $1,000, and Kirsten Shaw gave $250. The McRae Foundation gave a $2,000 grant.

McAlister’s Deli has raised a total of $77,000 over the past two years. Many faithful donors chose to direct their support to the golf tournament and thus they are not in our donor data base, but should you know of them. Please express your appreciation for their support.

Rankin County Leadership had a fund raiser called Dudes Not a Lady resulting in almost $5,000. Briarwood Presbyterian Church had a Dorcus event which raised $7,286. Jackson Prep donated sheets, towels, and waste paper backets. Flowood Chamber ladies donated folding chairs for sports events and just relaxing.

And women’s home parents have donated. Cindy Chew bought the coverlets and the lamps for all the rooms. Vicky LaDue purchased bath mats and mattress covers and made a $50 donation. Marlene Davis, a weekend relief parent, gave bath towels and blankets. And Janet and Randy Gerleman purchased place settings, china, a carpet sweeper, and a big coffee pot.

Again we are so filled with gratitude. Please, we would like you to thank people. At the same time be aware that all of our donors are special to us, and that no one project or activity that the Mustard Seed engages in can be separated from the whole. Our challenges and successes are all tied together, even as our commuity is tied together. I am so filled with thanksgiving as I review this list of our heroes, and I know you are as well.

God bless them, and may God continue to bless the Mustard Seed.
